In a surprising twist, the House of Representatives has rejected a bill that would have expanded the sale of legally grown cannabis in coffee shops in Amsterdam. A majority, consisting of PVV, NSC, BBB, CDA, Christian Union, SGP, Denk and Forum for Democracy, voted down the change in the law. This decision casts a shadow over the future of the cannabis industry in the capital.

The proposal, which was intended to improve the quality and safety of the cannabis market, received support from various parties, but was met with strong resistance from the aforementioned factions. Amsterdam, known for its tolerant attitude towards soft drugs, seemed to be ready for a new step towards legalization. Unfortunately, enthusiasm has been dampened by these recent political developments.

Coffeeshop Cool Running in Maastricht, which is already known for its high-quality products and hospitable atmosphere, regrets the state of affairs.

“The ability to offer legally grown cannabis would not only improve the quality of the product, but also increase safety and transparency in the industry,” notes the spokesperson for Coffeeshop Cool Running. “Unfortunately, it appears that political interests have taken precedence over the well-being of the community and industry.”

The bill would not only allow the legalization of legally grown cannabis in coffee shops, but also introduce stricter rules and controls to combat illegal cultivation.
